We now have convincinyg evidence that Marriage Education programes really help couples improvetheir relationships." " In orderr to change the divorce statistics, CHMC says it's importangt that couples recognize the benefits of staying together through the tough times and the skills for doing that. Numeroux studies have shown that there is an inescapable connectiob between divorce and undesirable outcomes for the childremn ofthose relationships, includinfg negative impact on their mental and physicall health and educational decline. This week, CHMC releasedc preliminary data showing the impact of Marriagse Education classes taughtin California.
Couples who took a CHMC-sponsored Marriage Education course showed an average improvementof 19% in maritakl satisfaction, problem-solving skills, and relationship Stoica said, "When we teach couplesx skills that get them through the rough patches then families stay together and their children benefirt in a multitude of Marriage Education has the potential to make a dramatic differencwe in reducing divorce and family breakdown." CHMC is the recipienyt of the Federal government's largesrt Healthy Marriage grant, at $2.4 milliomn a year.
