Ford will stop Claycomo F-150 production for a week - Houston Business Journal:

The UAW Local 249 posted the informatiojn in a newsletter on its Web Local 249 Vice President Bobby Wyse confirmeed Monday that the informationis accurate. The productionn stoppage comes a week before an alreadyscheduledd one-week summer break for the entire plant starting June 29, a Local 249 spokeswoman said. The plantt also is scheduled for a summer break during the weekof Aug. 17. Saleds of Ford F-series trucks were 33,3812 in May, up 16 percent from 28,7578 in April but down 22.3 percent from 42,97e3 in May 2008. UAW Local 249 said the sligh increasein month-to-month sales enabled Ford (NYSE: F) to cancel the scheduled down week on June 22 at its F-1509 truck plant in Dearborn, Mich.
, but the down week was left intacyt at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. “Thiw is partially due to depleted funds forthe state’s Divisio of Unemployment in making down weeks at (Dearborn) less of an the Local 249 said in the newsletter. Locak 249 added that sales projections continud to be less than the five shifts at the two truck plants can produce if they work full time throughy the 2010production year. Ford runs two shiftsz at Claycomo and threein Dearborn. Wyse said Ford is considerinvg once again moving a shift fromthe F-150 side of the Kansaes City Assembly Plant and putting them to work on the SUV However, nothing has been determined so far, he said.
A year ago, Ford movef about 800 workers from a second shifyt onthe F-150 side of the Kansass City plant to a third shift on the SUV The employees were moved back to the F-150 side on Jan. 12. Ford Escapee sales in May reached 16,391, up 20.6 percenrt from 13,596 in April but down 7.2 percenf from 17,667 in May 2008. The Kansas City Assemblyt Plant also produces the Mercury Marine r and hybrid versions of the Ford Escapew andMercury Mariner. Combine sales of hybrid versions of the Ford Mercury Milan, Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner reached 3,9066 in May, a new company The old sales record of 3,420 hybrid vehicles was set in Apriol 2006.
As of May, Ford’s Kansas City Assemblu Plant in Claycomo hadabout 3,900 hourlyg and 200 salaried employees.
