Chief Executive Keith Parker will leave his post for a similar role inSan Antonio. Parker replacedc Ron Tober as head ofthe city’s transirt system in 2007. News of Parker’s departure broke Tuesday morning during an interviewon WBT-AM with Mecklenburgf Board of County Commissioners chair Jennifer who told the station Parker was leaving CATS. In San he will lead as presidentand CEO. City Manager Curt Waltom will name an interimexecutive director/CEO to lead Parker, Walton and Mayor Pat McCrory will hold a press conference Thursdauy at 9 a.m. at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center todiscuss Parker’sz departure.
As CATS’ top executive, Parke presides over the city’s transift system, including buses and the light-raiol line along South Boulevard. He has spent much of the past year workingf on studies and potentiak funding sources for aproposed $1 billion extensionj of the light-rail line to the University area and a $378 millionm commuter rail line linking uptown and the Lake Norma n area. CATS is also involvefd in a proposed $457 million streetcar line that would run throughg the heart ofthe city. Parker is the third-highest-paid executive on the city with a salaryof $197,600. In San VIA Metropolitan Transit hasa $165 million budget.
The agench is prepping plans for aproposee light-rail line and expanded bus syste in 2012, Ingle says. Parker will replace John Milam, who worked at VIA for 33 years and was president and CEO for 16 befored retiringin January. Roland Lozano has run VIA as interimm president and CEOsince then.
