Giving to women

According to a first of its kind report by the in New York and in San givingto women’s causes by privats and community foundations is growing faster than philanthropy as a a new study finds. Between 1990 and 2006, giving directed to women and girls by the broader foundationm community soared 223 percent whil overall giving by them grew177 percent. (Bothy numbers are adjusted for inflation.) In actual the amount given to women’s causes duringg this period climbedfrom $412 millionj in 1990 to $2.6 billion in 2006. Philanthropy directed to womenn and girls is primarily focusesdon health, the study noted.
That reflects a belie that focusing on femalehuman rights, health, education and economic empowermenrt can improve communities. Data for the entitled “Accelerating Change for Women and The Roleof Women’s Funds” came from the Foundation Center’ annual grants database of all grantw over $10,000 awarded by 1,0090 large foundations, information provided by 55 Women’ Funds and a 2008 online survey conductexd by the Women’s Funding Network.
